Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaker. Feminist Frequency is a web site which hosts video and commentary analysing portrayals women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has been awarded awards in her field, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site dedicated to education, which examines gender roles within popular culture, is directed by Sarkeesian. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes about women and how they are portrayed in popular culture. In addition, she works to raise awareness of the online abuse directed towards women and marginalized groups of people. Sarkeesian is a graduate in the field of political and social thought at York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomen XOXO, TEDxWomen and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender identities and feminisms from at an early age, she created her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while being a student at the University. She was launching a series of online videos that examined the gender representations in video games after she was the subject of harassment online. This attack didn't stop her, but instead strengthened her determination as a feminist critic of media. For the many contribution she's made to feministism, she's awarded numerous prizes.
